Description: Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome. You are looking at a rare late 1930's to 40's era Shure Brothers 70ST model crystal microphone. This was a very modern design for it's time and you can see the transition with it as the microphone companies began steering away from the spring mics that were so common in the 1920's and 30's. It has the Spring design without the springs. It simply screwed onto any stand. It comes with the period Shure S-36 desk stand. Pic # 2 is from an old Shure catalog I have showing the mics basic specs. The 70-H and 70-ST seem to be exactly the same. If there is any difference in these models...I'm unaware. This 70ST mic is in very nice physical condition considering it's age as seen in the pictures provided. The satin chrome body shows just small signs of wear in the form of fine tiny scratches but it's been thoroughly been cleaned and the looks pretty damn good overall. The mic even has all of it's original screws which is a real bonus. The front screen is free of any dents or tarnish and the inner black cloth screen looks great. The 70ST Shure badge is completely legible and shows a minimum of wear. Overall I would rate this mic an easy 8 on a scale of 1 -10. It should be noted right away that this microphone is non-working as the original crystal element no longer works though still present. There is plenty of room to install a new crystal or controlled magnetic element if one chooses to actually use the mic live. The classic model 70ST has some good weight to it and it's measurements are 5 1/2 inches tall X 3 inches wide X 1 1/2 inches deep. Mic is solid with no loose or rattling parts. With the stand included the mic measures 10 inches tall X 6 inches wide. The stand is a period Shure S-36 model that was first introduced in 1939 and manufactured until 1960. This was a very modern looking stand in it's day and the design was like nothing else available. It's tear drop design really compliments those early deco Shure mics and provides a very stable platform. This is the earlier Chicago made S-36. The paint on the mic and stand shows no cosmetic wear and free of any dents, fractures or corrosion. The Shure badge on the mic stand was replaced with a beautiful chrome "switch to talk" lever assembly. The mechanism is no longer wired but could be if one was willing to do the work. The S-36 stand has all of it's original hardware including the bolt and cable clamps. The 5 original rubber pads will keep the stand from scratching any surface it may rest on. Comes with the original cable clamp and brass bolt in which to attach the mic. If you are a serious collector of vintage Americans mics then you know what a unique mic this is. She'll make an awesome display piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office. And as always... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period.
