As best as we can tell, this is part of Starbucks' annual Sakura promotion in Japan; we've seen it in green, but this is the only mug we can find in pink. It is a time that the Japanese celebrate annually, as the fragile sakura blossoms are only visible for a brief time. They celebrate by having hanami, or outdoor gatherings, to enjoy the season and to take time to remember that some things in life are brief. Starbucks mugs, tumblers and other promotional items are wildly popular and the day they are issued is marked with much fanfare on social media.
