Description: Nippon Rising Sun Set of 6 Salad Plates 7 1/2" HP Pink Azaleas w/Gold 1891-1918 Exquisite Decorative NIPPON Set of 6 Salad PLATES 7 1/2" Diameter, Hand Painted PINK AZALEAS w/Raised PAINT ACCENTS, Rising Sun mark from Morimura Bros. in Noritake, Japan, circa 1891-1918 DESCRIPTION: This antique set of 6 salad plates has the traditional hand painted pink azaleas with their green leaves. There are gold accents on the rim of the plate behind the pink blooms. The flowers have raised paint to give depth to the blooms. Also, there are grey ghost leaves to give more depth to the painting. The rims of the plates are tastefully trimmed in gold. See the photos. CONDITION: The condition of this decorative set is superb. We can find no defects and only one spot of damage on one plate. See photo #10 to see two short lines through leaves on the smaller spray. There is no other rubbing to the paint. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, scratches or hairlines. We gave one full frontal view of each plate for your close-up inspection. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The salad plates have a diameter of 7 1/2" and a height of 7/8". HISTORY/MARKS: Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing fine bone china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More, David Spain shows that Noritake substituted Japan for Nippon in their backstamps starting in 1918. The Rising Sun Mark is attributed to Noritake and its forerunner in the 1890’s to 1921 time period. In ABC’s of Collecting Nippon Porcelain, Van Patten attributes the Rising Sun’s mark to since 1911. This seems to narrow the window of use for the Rising Sun mark to 1911-1918. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
