Description: 1971 TOPPS BASEBALL EMPTY WAX BOX VARIETY: Pete Rose CoinBBCE Authenticated & Sealed DESCRIPTION: A gorgeous and hard-to-find addition to any collection of high-grade vintage Topps packaging. A case-fresh empty display box of the original 10-cent wax box release. From a recent basement find; one owner since 1971 (see below). Identified as authentic and sealed by BBCE, freshly submitted and received (November 2024). The first set of photos are of the box with the BBCE seal. The second set of photos (the last two box pics) are of the box in its raw state, before submission to BBCE. VARIETY: This is the version of the box that shows:Pete Rose coin promo on front vertical panel;"GIFT" promo on back vertical panel; "GIFT" promo on bottom panel; andBox code "1-402-37-01-1" on bottom panelAUTHENTICITY: Steve Hart of Baseball Card Exchange (BBCE), based in Schererville, Indiana, is the recognized industry leader in the authentication of wax packs and wax boxes. All BBCE-treated boxes feature a foam block inserted inside to maintain the square shape, a full wrap in an ultra-clear acid-free plastic, and a seal on bottom asserting its authenticity and identity, with holographic security features. CONDITION: FINE on a simple four-grade scale of Poor-Good-Very Good-Fine. No dents, chips, holes, or writing. Bold colors and bright whites with consistent image clarity. Sturdy and square even in raw state. Smooth panel surfaces with virtually no scratching or scuffing; no unnatural creases except faintly near perforation on top panel (normal). Minor normal white/chipping on some edges and corners. Very tough to find this box in high-grade condition. PROVENANCE: I recently began assisting a local retired professional with his vast childhood collection of sports and non-sports cards, sports memorabilia, books, and toys (partially shown in last pic). He kept nearly everything he acquired as a kid, including packaging ephemera. Back in the '60s and '70s he personally purchased around 50 sport and non-sport trading card boxes, including this one, and still has many of the pack wrappers and cards they came with. He stored the wax boxes in an outer box for 50+ years in smoke-free, climate-controlled homes. Before now he had never attempted to sell any of his boxes or cards; they've never been handled at card shops, shows, or garage sales.
