England...The R.A.F. have started works service squadrons for the repair and maintenance of airdromes. Immediately an airdrome has been bombed and damaged, these squadrons go into action, filling in craters, so as to keep the airfield in service. Among the many jobs carried out by these squadrons are the laying of metal track runways to enable aircraft to take off on unsuitable ground, and the laying of concrete roadways, work which was formerly carried out by units of the Army, or by civilian contracts. The formations of these squadrons were an outcome of the attempted blitzes on R.A.F. fields during 1940, and are the latest wartime introduction to add to the efficiency of the R.A.F.
